How should I prepare for my massage session?
Get medical clearance if you have recently undergone surgery or have been in a car accident. Do not take muscle relaxers or pain pills stronger than over the counter brands. It may sound silly but you can actually damage the body if it’s too relaxed. Massage and muscle relaxers at the same time are contraindicated (not allowed) and this is for your safety.
If you have uncertainty about massage due to health issues, medications or other circumstances please do not hesitate to ask! You will fill out a detailed, confidential health form prior to your first session. This will provide us with important insight on the right treatment for you.
Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after your session. Massage works largely by increasing circulation and lymph flow. You want to drink more water than you normally would to assist your body in flushing toxins. You will notice you’re thirsty after a massage, this process starts immediately but lasts up to 48 hours post massage so keep up with your water!
What do I need to know before my facial?
What’s most important before a facial is that your esthetician knows about any topical exfoliants, Acutane, laser treatments etc. ANY type of Vit A ie: Retinol, Retin A must be continued for at least two weeks before a Facial Infusion. Retin A makes the skin more fragile and we don’t want your skin to be damaged by overstimulation. Knowing your regular regime is essential for us in choosing the correct treatment. For example, a hydrating facial would be best if you’re under a dermatologist’s care for acne. Many medically prescribed routines can dry the body from the inside out, and the right treatment works well to counter balance those issues.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. If you cancel after the 24 hour period or do not show for your appointment, the full appointment fee if expected. We do however understand that emergencies and sickness come up and simply ask you give us as much notice as possible in these circumstances. Three late cancellations or no shows in a year will require prepayment for all future appointments.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, checks, cash and you can also use your HAS, medical flex spending cards. We provide an invoice for reimbursement in this case. Please check with your insurance company directly for specifics. We do not accept insurance directly.
I can always find bargains on the deal sites, and the chains offer services at $60 or so, why should I come to Remedy Wellness?
Unlike services offered through group deal sites, our goal is to create lasting relationships with our clients that result in improved health and well being. Because we charge one fee for our services – whether that includes hot stones, aromatherapy, deep tissue techniques or whatever your body needs – our fees are often far less than what you would find even on the daily deal sites. Remedy Wellness focuses on holistic health that goes beyond a cookie-cutter deal to provide the optimal experience for each client, each time they visit.
The chain models offer low initial prices, but they are based on monthly memberships and long term contracts. The staff is often less experienced, and the service itself is only 50 minutes. Anything more than a basic massage typically results in additional charges as well.
At Remedy Wellness we take our time with each client instead of packing as many sessions into a day as possible. In our facility everyone is experienced and we are committed to continuing education on protocols and products – bringing only the best to the treatment room. Because we are a small, focused business we can offer outstanding services and high quality products without marking our prices up like the glitzy spas and resorts. Our commitment to quality care at a fair market price will be obvious at your first visit. No gimmicks, just goodness!
Do I tip my Massage Therapist/Esthetican?
If you feel you have received excellent service, gratuities are greatly appreciated! 15-20% is the general service industry standard. You can tip cash or have us add the tip amount to your sale before running your credit card. Please avoid charging only a tip. You may also add a tip into your check amount.
When do gift certificates expire?
Gift certificates do not expire, but they are non-refundable. Please note that your gift certificate does not include gratuity.
Can I bring my cell phone to my appointment?
We encourage you to disengage from the outside world as much as possible during your treatment. If you must have your phone on in the treatment room for daycare or work please keep it on vibrate only. If you are in our waiting area please be sure your phone is on silence all. Even keyboard clicks are distracting if other clients are trying to enjoy the quiet of our space.
What do I wear during my massage/facial?
For a table massage you typically undress to the level you are comfortable. We recommend taking everything off but you can leave underwear on if you prefer. Even during a facial you receive a thorough neck and shoulder massage. You are completely covered by sheet and blanket for your session and only the area getting work is uncovered. It’s a modest process and we provide long robes if you need the rest room or are going to another room for a second treatment. If undressing is not something you are comfortable with, try a chair massage or a Reiki session.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese Healing to aid in stress reduction. You may also hear it referred to as ”laying on of hands”. The word can be broken down into two Rei meaning “Universal Life” and Ki meaning “Energy” Our bodies are powerful and with some intention and channeling they can mend in exceptional ways. Reiki is used in medical settings much more these days giving it wider recognition in our county than ever before. Excellent for subtle physical and emotional energy balancing.
Will getting a facial cause my skin to break out?
This is not incredibly common but if your skin does purge it is something that it needs to do to restore itself to optimal health.
Why should I buy professional skin care products?
Facials offer many health benefits, but if you go home and use products full of alcohol that are stripping your skin or heavy emolliants that weigh your skin down, results will not be optimal. We carry three professional lines that are explained in depth on our products page. A variety of products are needed to address all needs from aging to acne.
What should I expect after a massage?
You may feel a little tired due to your lymphatic system working hard to get rid of toxins. This is normal and why drinking water is so important! If you received deep work you may feel a little sore and that feeling generally subsides after 48 hours. Our muscles have memories just like our brain and you may also experience what is called an emotional release. If you feel a bit emotional post session, try to just let it flow – obviously it’s needed! These things are all possibilities but most of the time you leave a session feeling energized, less stressed, in much less pain and sometimes even euphoric!
